It's ridiculous that despite the seriousness of the situation and all the Singapore government advisories, people in Singapore, be it Singaporeans, PRs, foreign long term pass workers are still travelling in and out of the country like nothing has happened.

IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND SELFISH.

And the end result, so many of the new cases in the last 2 weeks are people who have gone abroad, bringing Covid19 virus back into Singapore.

I urge Singapore government to impose a 2 to 3 weeks lockdown like what Malaysia has done. Bite the bullet and act decisively for a long term solution to end Covid 19. Half hearted measures will not work and it will wear out our frontline anti Covid 19 workers and resources.

Coronavirus: Singapore will not rule out lockdown, but not on the cards for now, says Lawrence Wong

SINGAPORE - Singapore will not rule out a lockdown to tackle the growing threat of the coronavirus outbreak, but it is not an option currently on the cards, said National Development Minister Lawrence Wong on Tuesday (March 17).

"We have always said that we need to consider a whole range of measures and not rule anything out," he told a press conference at the Ministry of Communications and Information.

"So something as stringent, we are not planning for it - so Singaporeans should not think of us as planning for it. It's certainly a very extreme measure, and we don't think we need to get there if we do all the things we have been doing, we have been advocating, and we do them well."

Mr Wong, who co-chairs the multi-ministry task force set up to deal with the coronavirus situation, was responding to a question on whether Singapore would consider such a measure decided on by Malaysia.

Malaysia had announced that its citizens would not be allowed to travel overseas for two weeks starting from Wednesday (March 18), as part of a slew of measures to arrest the spread of the coronavirus.

All schools, universities, and businesses there would be shut, and all public gatherings banned during this period, although essential services would continue, Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said.

Mr Wong said that if the multiple lines of defences that the Government has put in place - such as border controls, contact tracing, and social distancing - can be tightened, then Singapore need not reach a situation where the entire city has to be locked down.

"We could potentially do, for example... a major circuit breaker that doesn't entail a lockdown, but entails school closures, workplace closures, and doing it on a temporary basis over a period of two to three weeks, just as the Malaysians have done."

"So there is a whole range of measures that we have in our toolkit, and we constantly monitor the environment, the risk situation, and then we will adjust our measures," he added.

At the press conference, also attended by Manpower Minister Josephine Teo and Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, the authorities said it was helping companies which employ Malaysian workers, especially those that provide essential services, to find temporary accommodation in Singapore.

Mr Wong said that the land crossing with Malaysia is something that needed special consideration given the high volume of people and goods passing through.

"That's why we've been discussing this matter bilaterally, but in recent days, the Malaysians, seeing the seriousness of the matter within their own country... decided that they needed a swift and urgent response."

He said that if and when these measures are lifted by Malaysia, things cannot go back to "business as usual". Extra precautions do need to be taken at the border, and what these measures are will depend on discussions with Malaysia.

A possible measure could be having to differentiate between the daily commuters and tourists. "And then you've got to find some ways to do that without causing too much congestion, some kind of a differentiated approach."

FAQ on how Malaysia's lockdown will affect Singaporeans

While the current measures posed an inconvenience to everyone, Mr Wong said, Singapore should take this in its stride.
"Importantly... the measures that the Malaysians put in place will help to control the transmission of the virus not just within Malaysia, but also across the border."

Singaporeans urged not to travel as 'it puts everyone at risk' of COVID-19

SINGAPORE: National Development Minister Lawrence Wong on Tuesday (Mar 17) urged Singaporeans to comply with the Ministry of Health's (MOH) advisory to defer non-essential travel, after the emergence of more imported COVID-19 cases involving Singapore residents who had returned from overseas.

"We call on everyone to comply with this advisory and defer your travel plans," Mr Wong said in a press conference held by the multi-ministerial task force dealing with the coronavirus outbreak.

"If there is no need to travel, please don't travel during this period. It puts everyone at risk. You put yourself at risk and you put your family members and the people around you at risk," he said, adding that Singapore was not "shutting down" its borders.

Mr Wong said that Singapore is not planning to call for a lockdown to curb the virus' spread, but could consider "major circuit breakers" that potentially include measures like the temporary closure of schools and workplaces.

"If we are are vigilant, we implement our measures effectively, we do not have to lock down our city and we don't want to lock down our city," he said.

Mr Wong said that the majority of imported cases in recent days have not involved foreign visitors such as tourists, but Singaporeans, permanent residents and long-term pass holders who had just been travelling and were infected by the virus when they were overseas.

Anyone who decides to travel despite the advisory will have to use their personal leave to serve their stay-home or leave of absence notice.

Additionally, the employers of such travellers will not be able to claim the S$100 daily allowance from the Ministry of Manpower, said Mr Wong.

Those who still wish to travel will "have to take responsibility for their actions", he said.

Singapore reported 17 new infections on Monday - its largest single-day increase to date. Eleven were imported cases involving Singapore residents who had travelled to destinations like France, Spain, eastern Europe, the Netherlands and the United States.

MOH issued a travel advisory on Sunday advising all Singaporeans to defer non-essential travel. The advisory applied immediately and was set to last for 30 days, after which it would be reviewed.

Why are we still not impose travel restriction for flights from USA? Over 5000 cases and many death? Is PAP afraid of USA or just discriminating against China?

Stay at home and have tantric sex is the best!
we currently have a 6.9-county lockdown in sillycon valley: alameda, contra costa, marin, santa clara, santa cruz, san francisco, san mateo. since sf is mainly a city, it's 0.9 of a county. i'm quite sure many couples will be engaged in weeks of tantric sex behind closed doors. outside, couples must stay apart at a minimum of 6.9 feet, thus tantric sex has to be performed by hand and eyes signals.

Sinkie put businesses and investors first before tge rest. Its these money that put food on the table and drives the economy.
Malaysia did a mistake in the lockdown.their cluster from that " tabligh" congregation in a local mosque should not affect industrial production which should be allowed to continue. But they have decided to close everything. This may affect their investment climate in future. They should have taken feedback from manufacturers before the drastic action.

Even W.H.O. is calling for South East Asia countries to take more stringent and drastic action.

'Aggressive' action needed in Southeast Asia to stop coronavirus: WHO

18 Mar 2020 02:40AM(Updated: 18 Mar 2020 07:04AM)

NEW DELHI: The World Health Organization called for "aggressive" action in Southeast Asia to combat the fast-spreading coronavirus, warning on Tuesday (Mar 17) that some countries were heading towards community transmission of the deadly disease.

Infections have soared across the region in recent weeks, forcing several countries to introduce drastic measures ranging from closing their borders to foreign arrivals and imposing nighttime curfews to closing schools and cancelling sports events.

All the diseased already came to sinkieland. Good luck.
The PAP government has not been decisive enough from the start. If they had lock down like what Malaysia did early on, we could have controlled the crisis much better. The Malaysian move has been decisive and they will control the spike in 2 weeks. Singapore will still be struggling with half baked efforts with more spikes if we continue this way. Now all over Singapore, there's another round of unnecessary public buying again. Taiwan and Macau were decisive from the start and managed to control the number of cases to the minimum. The PAP in my opinion has failed us again.

Had Mr Lee Kuan Yew been in charge, this dilly dallying would not have happened. He would have been decisive. The 4G leaders are weak and indecisive.

The truth is tourist arrivals from US is relatively small. You can get the data from STPB. Better worry about the Indons.

Singapore will not survive a lockdown. They refuse to do it or else the fallacy of Total Defence will be exposed.
I have said it many times:
Sg will never go to war or else the whole system will collapse.
This virus is a good lockdown test to gauge the preparedness of Total Defense but they will never do it.

This is a government abetting murder of Singaporeans. It's wrong, not right, socially irresponsible and if there's just one infected person inside, many will contract the Covid-19 virus.
