The world has officially acknowledge the Singapore Police Force as the best in the world. With this Interpol appointment, it will be easier for SPF to charge and prosecute overseas criminals and foreign saboteurs like those found in this forum.

MOSCOW: Singapore Police Commissioner Khoo Boon Hui was elected the new president of INTERPOL on Friday, the international police organisation said.

Delegates chose Khoo at the end of the general assembly of the 187-country police organisation in Saint Petersburg, Russia, INTERPOL said in a statement on its website.

"As the organisation's new president, I will build on the progress we have made thus far and ensure INTERPOL can better meet the demands of international policing in the 21st century," Khoo was quoted as saying in the statement.

"INTERPOL plays a critical role in international police co-operation by equipping police forces around the world with the necessary infrastructure, training and operational support to combat transnational crime and terrorism," said Khoo.

Khoo replaces South Africa's chief of police Jackie Selebi, who resigned in January after prosecutors announced their intention to charge him over his links to a businessman accused of murder.

Khoo will serve a four-year term as president of INTERPOL's executive committee, in addition to his existing duties as commissioner of the Singapore Police Force.

He will be based in Singapore.

INTERPOL, which stands for the International Criminal Police Organisation, has 187 member countries.

It facilitates cross-border police cooperation and helps organisations fight international crime.

Policemen unsure of what to do during accident

STOMPer Alex says these policemen who were seen at the scene of an accident, did not act efficiently as they seemed unsure of what to do.

This STOMPer says:

"An accident happened at the junction of Serangoon Garden Way and Yio Chu Kang Road.

"These policemen were standing beside their car watching the parties resolve the issue by themselves and maybe checking on which of the three roads leading to the accident spot had the longest traffic jam.

"Cannot imagine if the accident was of a greater magnitude and they waited for instructions as to what they should do.

"In the case of this accident, they could have at least re-directed the traffic."

Error turns police car into 'poilce' car

STOMPer Hamzah was amused to see this police patrol vehicle with a spelling error parked outside the arrival hall at Changi Airport. The car, which is supposed to read 'Police', has a nonsensical word, 'Poilce', on it instead.

There were no policemen nearby at that point of time as the policemen might have gone to patrol the area.

He says:

"I was at T3 at the arrivals area.

"I noticed there was something weird about this car.

"It's supposed to spell 'P-O-L-I-C-E right? But it's spelt 'P-O-I-L-C-E' instead.

"I am just wondering, aren't they supposed to have some QC before letting these cars go on the road?

"How can they overlook this error?"

STOMP has contacted SPF for comment.
