Security guard unlocks HDB flat door and wanders around while owner is asleep

In a bit of bizarre news, a security guard entered an HDB unit uninvited and explored the space in the wee hours of the morning while the owner was fast asleep. But he didn’t take anything with him, and even closed the main door behind him when he exited.
Raj pleaded guilty after he was charged in court and was sentenced on Wednesday afternoon to 18 months of probation. The incident in question occurred on June 23 last year around 4:15am at Block 205 Toa Payoh North.
Lianhe Wanbao reported that the 32-year-old went up to the 12th story, explaining that he wanted to look at the scenery. However, he started walking around outside a flat instead, and even took photos of the unit with his phone camera.
Stranger things happened after that, when Raj reached past the window to unlock the main door. He stepped into the flat and, using the flashlight app on his phone, wandered around the space, checking out the kitchen, toilet, and living room. He also attempted to walk into the bedroom, but it was locked, as the owner was asleep inside.
It was only about four days later that the 43-year-old Chinese male owner of the flat discovered what took place when he checked CCTV footage. A police report was immediately lodged.
Apparently, this isn’t the first time Raj has committed such an offence. Back in 2016, he was fined $3,000 for trespassing into a stranger’s house — he didn’t swipe anything, but it was considered a felony, nonetheless.
While the prosecution called for Raj to be sentenced to a three-month jail sentence for claiming to have no memory of anything that transpired, the defence asked for psychotherapy and probation instead, as no one would walk into a stranger’s home uninvited in the middle of the night without a proper reason.
