SINGAPORE - A stray python caused a stir at a wet market in Bukit Batok on Saturday morning (April 28), with a crowd of people gathering to take photos and videos of the reptile.

A video posted by Facebook user Sunny Rajah shows the large snake coiled in the eaves of a roof.

Several people are shown crowding around, taking videos of it and chattering excitedly.

Mr Rajah later posted a photo of the crowd of about 30 to 40 people, "all waiting for the snake to come out".

Mr Kalai Vanan, deputy chief executive officer of wildlife rescue group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres), told The Straits Times that the group received a call about the python on Saturday morning.

"It is our native reticulated python which was sighted at a wet market," he said. "We believe the python was eating a rat when it was first sighted. The snake had gone back into some roof gap and could not be located."

He added that "there is nothing to be worried about".

yes, was just visiting my neighbour sanjit, whom, as you know, is related to our uncle chopra and aunty shalini. this constituency is helmed by another cousin brudder muralee - who has been very hospitable to me and assisted my family to settle in the bukit batok nature park, where he has asked residents to provide us with puppies for lunch. we'll be moving to a high ses residence in nearby bukit gombak where the views are to die for and we can have hanumans instead of junkyard dogs for dinner (don't know why those blardy sinkie bengs refer to them as hanor's) and i've have asked my bachelor brother sanjay to marry a local hisser to start a family, since iswaran has brokered the ceca agreement for our 2-legged brethren in the it industry. it's jolly good not to have to go with stinking rajan to tekka and dance to the stupid tunes that he plays on his flute for a measly meal of mice fed by those lowly ses uneducated darkie construction shitskins, woohoo!:p

I think you should start a business writing Indian fables.;)

Did Oppie Chee plant the snake and then blamed the good MP Murali for it? Mr Murali is a fine gent with a good heart. I worry that he may get backstabbed by the conniving Oppie Chee. I hope he is under surveillance by the police for his huge potential for mischief.

No lah, this is PAP snake...can you see the PA, RC markings on the python, to grow to that size, it must be well fed...just like members, or 'brothers', 'sisters' or even 'comrades'..wonder if this was "sister mary' out after a meal & a siesta..ha ha ha ha

Snake is indian God. Most pythons are eaten by cobras anyway, this one must be clever to survive the onslaught. Unfortunately, it ended up in chinese eating pavilion. Sure die one.
