The Straits of Malacca separates the Malay Peninsula from the Indonesian island of Sumatra while the south coast is separated from the island of Singapore by the Straits of Johor.
The Malay term Tanah Melayu is generally used by the Malays and occasionally used in political discourse to describe uniting all ethnic Malay people on the peninsula under one Malay nation against the Great Britain to form an Independent nation. Yet the original native of peninsula share same identity as minority with others non Muslim. This is so call Majority Right.
It is not an issue to call a nation as Republic of Malay-Zhong-Hua, Singapore Island. Singaporean shall share common history, culture, language and ethnic origin to seeking its own government. The majority of Singaporean is Chinese. The Singaporean Chinese had form mix culture and mix language with Malay Muslim, Indian and European. They also mix married with them too. It is not difficult to form a national identity as far the Chinese Singaporean able to respect and share with the minorities.
