Singapore MAS: Most Firms Have Insignificant Madoff Exposure
SINGAPORE -(Dow Jones)- Singapore's central bank said Friday most financial institutions in the city-state have reported insignificant direct or indirect exposure to Bernard Madoff's investment securities firm.
"Most financial institutions in Singapore have reported to MAS that their checks show that they have insignificant direct or indirect exposures to Bernard Madoff," the central bank said in a statement.
"A few financial institutions that may have indirect exposures arising from clients' investments with funds linked to Madoff are conducting further checks," it said.
Wall Street veteran Bernard Madoff was arrested last week for an alleged $50 billion fraud that drew in hedge funds, wealthy private investors and major banks around the world.
