MR WONG YEW HON: 'While I am proud that Singapore ranks second globally in broadband penetration ('US lags behind in speed of Internet access', Aug 27), I am dismayed it is a laggard at 24th spot in download speed. Worse, we rank 51st among 58 economies surveyed in average upload speed. At 0.74 Mbps, Singapore is cyber crawling like a Third World country. It confirms that from the consumer's point of view, Singapore places quantity (penetration) above quality (download speed). I am also curious to find out how much the South Koreans and Americans pay their service providers for broadband services. If the service here is cheaper than either, then I may accept we get what we paid for. If not, are Singaporeans being taken for a ride by service providers who offer poor quality at high cost?'

I'm still waiting for them to repair the damaged underwater cables. Anyone know when the underwater cables will be repaired :confused:

Maybe they've been repaired but the slow connection & constant breakup in connection is the norm nowadays :mad:

Some of us rely on the internet to make our living . Just another sign of the malaise that's setting in Spore. Spore is in big trouble with the inefficiencies of a lazy gov't. The sign are there for everyome to see : high cost, red tape, bureaucracy,... :rolleyes:

Try calling them and their customer service officers tending to you are foreigners!

The last time I called them was because of some problems connecting to a particular US site. Realised that they are only low level staff & powerless to provide a solution.

I had to connect using a proxy site. This was the solution provided by the US & not Spore. Don't know why I needed to use a proxy because the US site I was trying to connect to was a finacial site, not a porn site.

New law must put in place.
Eg. 98% of the time connection speed must be not less than 30% plan and on average speed of all time must not be less than 50% plan. If above are not meet consumer will have right not to pay for the internet fee.

SBS was fined for not meeting service level targets. Has there been any improvement :confused:
