i hope they devalue it now.

i cannot wait.

yum yum.

Do you gain anything by devalue our sinkie dollars?

Do you gain anything by devalue our sinkie dollars?

Can, for example now Sterling pounds to sing dollar is about 2.20, which meant Sing Dollar had strength considerably as it was ard 2.90 as of last year dec. So taking the exch rate at 2.20, Ten Thousand Sing Dollar get u ard 4,545.45 pounds. In the event of Sing Dollar depreciation and the exch rate fall back to 2.90, that 4,545.45 pounds can be change back to S$ 13,181.81.

So that mean $13,181.81 - $10,000.00 = $ 3,181.81 profit. So now it a good time to buy Aussie and Pounds as both had fell considerably over the last few months.

MAS will depreciate the value of the Sing Dollar for the next six months or so to boast export and keep the cost competitative for foreign investors. The down side is that inflation will rise but that the common ppl problem as govt had develop a "u die is your own problem" attitude. As long economy can stay a float, ppl welfare can take a backseat.

The above is just my two cents, i could be wrong but i already make a profit on the yen so now will wait for pounds to fall a bit more before going in again.:D

Ya! PRC mei meis in Geylang had given notice that the rate is going up! Damn!

i'm always amazed by MAS's theory that by devalung our currency, it will make our exports more competitive.

but does MAS know that since SG don't produce the raw materials required for manufacturing, we have to buy the raw materials in US dollars? So isn't it a zero-sum game again?

Bro, i only using "export" as a general term. it need not be a physical product. It can in a form of a service and also the tourism dollars. By keeping the value of dollar low, can attract more tourists to come and had the add on effect of keeping Singaporeans from going on holidays.

In fact i just think of another benefit from depreciation of Sing Dollar, PRCs will no longer find here an attractive place to work anymore as their Sing Dollar Salary will get less RMB when remitted back to China. Maybe can even reduce the amount of "streetwalkers" in Gayland. Think of the social benefits.

If i'm not wrong, the global problem is one of demand. no demand means no exports for us. devaluing would make sense to make our exports cheapers but it cannot do anything to stimulate demand which is the crux of the problem....

just my 2cts.

Your expression reminds me of that former cukoo-cukoo CFO at NatSteel. Any devaluation will do Sinkapore more SINK because already sinking Sinkapore is importing more than exporting. So, when SKD (SinkDollar) devalues, Sinkapore is importing inflation.

While you make a killing at Sterling, the gahment makes a killing on you and Sinkies by and large. It is not a zero-sum game as one might think, it is a negative-negative substraction game to be exact.

How is it going to affect me? Depends..... SKD stable, I pay lower tax. SKD devalues, I pay even lower tax.... if make me tulan, I will pay 5cents tax.

Mr kuntakinte,

as u can see from my above post, i already indicated that there will be inflation as SKD or SGD(whichever u like) devalue. I not supporting devaluation or whatever, just trying to make a buck from the resulting circumstances. Dont u think it worse to lose the chance of making some money while still being hit by inflation. At least can offset abit mah. As for whether MAS policy work, i really dont give a damn.

so, devaluation only helps if we export more than we import?

like tat confirm 09 more SG business will die.

Yes, of course. During the last recession, most of the manufacturing companies closed down. They have to shutdown because of cheaper products are produced elsewhere, especially, plastic molding business. One of my friends working in a plastic molding was complaining and he is still working there today. But, he is not sure of tomorrow.

During the last crisis, his boss intended to close down the factory. But, the company managed to get small, bits and pieces of business locally, they managed to stay afloat then. But, this time round, he is hoping for the best and expect the worst - orders are hard to come by.

So, if you are self-sufficient and you are exporting more than importing, devalue your currency to enjoy more exporting will make sense in this case.

How about Singapore ? What can we do ? A FUCK HUB will be a nice thing to begin with, we have all the FT Hookers hanging loosely around Sinkapore. Consolidating them together to offer a full range of services with various colors or nationality would help to bring in top tourist dollars coupled with opening of IR would really boost Sinkapore as a FUCK Hub. I dare say Sinkapore would definitely surpass Dubai !!!
