Contradiction in speech:

First sentence: none of the countries want to choose

Second sentence: why should I choose?

US should 'stay very far away' from physically confronting China over Taiwan: Ng Eng Hen

"So to Singapore and the ASEAN countries, my Prime Minister has said none of the countries want to choose (between US and China)," he said.

"Why should I choose? Both have benefitted me and there is a strategic rivalry. Can this strategic rivalry continue with me continuing to still benefit from both countries?"

This doctor speaks sense. USA, as well as Pfizer, should stay far far away.

Dictators have the right to contradict themselves.

Why sinkapore must always speak? Gigantic country like Indonesia also never say. If 1 day they come attack us see if u will tell US to go far far away.

虎落平阳被犬欺 .... toothless US tiger bully by dogs....

The pappies know that when (not if) the shit hits the fan, a lot of Aunty Ho's 'strategic investments' in China will be kaput overnight.

I think raising public transport fares by 52% also not enough to recoup all the losses.

US will ask all Pappies which they prefer, US dollars or Renminbi?

PAP party cadres have vested interests in cina so lan lan backside teo got to wayang a bit to appease XiXiPee.

Indeed. It also extends to those Sinkie Chinese business associations, clan federations etc.

Hardly surprising since George Yeo the Aljunied GRC reject constantly shills for China, and the Confucius Institute is still in business.

Also, many lobbyists and shills for China here:

I always thought Asean members like Cambodia, Laos and arguably Thailand and even Vietnam will prefer China to the USA anytime. So Dr Ng is making a big and bold statement.

As long as China throws money at them, they will sarkar China. If China's economy is kaput and not enough money to throw at little brothers, all bets are off.

Er... if US economy kaput and cannot bring ASEAN countries money you can bet all of us will tell US to get lost as well.

As the saying goes, there are no friends, only interests in the game of politics. Both US and China are busy going around throwing money at countries directly or indirectly, that is why you can see not just ASEAN but the rest of the world now seem to be flip flopping frequently. They are trying to negotiate the best deal from these two competitors.

If really rely on "shared values" to keep alliances together US would have died a dozen times during the cold war.
