SINGAPORE: A sister and her younger brother, who were brought on a shoplifting spree by their mother, were on Tuesday put on probation for 15 months each.
Polytechnic student Chloe Teh Pei Ling, aged 18, and her 17-year-old brother Teh Jun Wei stole from several shops at Causeway Point in Woodlands between January and March this year.
Their mother, 43-year-old Ngiau Lih Pyng, had instigated the shoplifting spree that amounted to more than S$2,000.
The trio stole multiple items from various shops located within the mall, including Guardian Pharmacy, Hush Puppies and clothing chain Uniqlo.
The teenagers would act as lookouts while Ngiau placed the items in her bag.
The older sister faced nine charges while her brother faced 10.
But the prosecution proceeded on between one and two charges for the siblings.
In sentencing, District Judge Ng Peng Hong also made the parents sign a S$5,000 bond for each of the siblings.
He ordered them to each clock 120 hours of community service and to adhere to other probation conditions.
