A PAIR of Filipino siblings were each jailed for six months on Friday over the criminal breach of trust of $21,663 worth of casino chips from Resorts World Sentosa casino.
Lim Mary Jane Dometita, 44, then a dealer, had admitted to misappropriating the cash chips at the casino in Sentosa Gateway between May 3 and 31 this year.
Her brother, Menito Jr Costes Dometita, 40, who works in the IT industry, pleaded guilty to conspiring with her last November by causing her to misappropriate the chips.
A district court heard that the offence came to light in May when Mary Jane was said to have overpaid a patron when changing chips.
A further review of the closed-circuit television footage showed that on May 30 and 31, there were eight instances where Mary Jane had either overpaid her brother, who was a patron, or failed to collect the losing bet from him.
Investigation showed that the pair had been facing financial difficulties since last November due to their older brother's medical bills and credit card debts.
They then conspired to cheat RWS casino by, among other things, returning the chips to Menito when he wanted to change to a smaller or higher denomination or paying him even though he had lost.
They could each have been jailed for up to 15 years and fined.
