It is coming close to the end of 2014.
Previously, there was a public outcry that only 22 MPs were in Parliament when it comes to voting for a Bill at around 5pm. [Link]
Parliamentary sessions start at 1pm. That is when attendance is usually taken.
For those who have attended Parliamentary sessions in the public gallery, along the way, some MPs will sneak out for coffee breaks and toilet breaks and for others, they sneak out and never come back again.
We have attended lectures before as students. If the lecturer is boring, sometimes, we skip our lectures after our attendance have been marked. The same thing will apply to Parliament as well.
Today, we list down some of the repeated offenders who AWOL themselves in the year 2014. And this list is not even conclusive as attendance was not taken at 3pm, 4pm or 5pm.
1) Prof Fatimah Lateef - 6 times. She's probably too busy being a medical physician in SGH and saving lives to attend Parliament sessions. Luckily we didn't elect colorectal surgeon Koh Poh Koon or he may also AWOL himself due to his multiple appointments in the medical sector.
2) Mah Bow Tan - 9 times. Former MND Minister is too busy with his private sector work to attend Parliament. Tampines voters need to relieve Mah of his misery by sending him into early retirement when it comes to Election.
3) Irene Ng - 6 times. Being a full-time MP, it is unfathomable that this former SPH journalist can skip so many sessions in Parliament. Or has she caught the AWOL bug from Mah and decided to travel to Scotland with her husband?
4) S Iswaran - 6 times. West Coast GRC MP Iswaran is probably too busy with his Trade Minister profile, negotiating for free trade agreements and doing his buttering-up work in Temasek Holdings portfolio.
5) Raymond Lim - 9 times. Former Minister for Transport has since been 'semi-retired' and not holding Ministerial positions. East Coast GRC voters should do the honors and send him into 'full-retirement' when it comes to voting time.
As seen from Mah's pattern, it seems that the more you do not hold Ministerial positions, the more likely you tend to AWOL yourself in Parliament.
6) Dr Chia Shi Lu - 7 times. Too busy with his medical practice, as inspired by role model Prof Fatimah Lateef.
7) Inderjit Singh - 7 times. Would prefer you to do less corridor washing and attend more Parliament to speak up for us. Click onhttps://www.facebook.com/therealsingapore/posts/792336554144847
8) Lim Hng Kiang - 4 times
9 Yeo Guat Kwang - 4 times. Not bad, considering he holds 64 appointments. Click on http://therealsingapore.com/content/ang-mo-kio-pap-mp-yeo-guat-kwang-holds-64-jobs
10) Seah Kian Peng - 4 times
In fact, these are not even the worst AWOLers. Below is a full list of the absentees from each parliamentary session this year.
