Shop assistant killed after shot 10 times
KULIM: A secondhand shop assistant was killed after he was shot 10 times at a traffic light junction in Taman Kucai, Lunas near here, the second shooting case in Kedah over the weekend.
On Saturday, car repossessor M. Nagenthiran, 30, was shot dead a few metres from his home in Taman Setia Jaya here.
In the latest shooting case yesterday, K. Thangaraja, 31, from Taman Perak was driving home in his Perodua Alza on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway when the incident happened at 8.45pm.
It was learnt that two men armed with a pistol had trailed Thangaraja on a motorcycle.
They then rode up next to him at the traffic light junction before the pillion rider fired shots at close range.
State CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Nashir Ya confirmed the incident and said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“Initially, members of the public thought it was someone playing with firecrackers,” he said.
ACP Mohd Nashir said the victim, who sustained gunshot wounds on his face and right arm, died on the spot.
After being shot, Thangaraja lost control of his car which skidded about 70m to the left road shoulder, he added.
“We recovered 10 spent 9mm bullet casings inside the car.
“We are still investigating the motive for the shooting,” he said.
It is learnt that Thangaraja was from Penang before he moved to Taman Perak here about three years ago after getting married.
The body has been sent to the Kulim Hospital for post-mortem.
Those with information on the incident are urged to contact the Kulim district CID chief Asst Supt T. Tharmalingam at 04-490 6222.
