YOU don't need a sailing club membership or even a yacht to have a wedding bash on water.
Even better, you can book this waterfront venue for free.
And you can still have that sunset in the horizon and the open breeze while you exchange wedding vows.
Miss Ding Zhen Xin, 27, an education officer, and her fiance, Mr Hoon Sze Siang, 28, a prisons officer, will do just that on board the floating deck at Bedok Reservoir come May next year.
They are the first couple to approach PUB, the national water agency, to book the venue for their wedding solemnisation ceremony and dinner.
'This is a dream come true for me,' a smiling Miss Ding said, even though she had always hoped for a wedding on board a yacht.
'We won't be on a yacht, but we will still be on water,' she said. 'And the floating deck can definitely accommodate many more guests.'
For the engaged couple with a 10-year courtship behind them, the venue also holds special meaning.
Mr Hoon, who lives nearby, said: 'We used to come here often when we were dating.'
UNIQUE SETTING: The floating deck can accommodate up to 670 people.
After he popped the question on 2 Nov, the idea was to have their wedding at the Bedok Reservoir Park.
Miss Ding said: 'We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the floating deck and thought it would be even more romantic if we could have our wedding ceremony on water.'
The two approached PUB, which was more than happy to accede to their request.
Ms Linda Dorothy De Mello, deputy director of the agency's 3P network department, said: 'PUB is definitely looking forward to having the first couple hold their wedding on the floating deck.'
Ms De Mello said they were also looking into the possibility of the couple arriving at the floating deck on a boat as they have requested.
She added: 'We will try to give them our fullest support so as to make this occasion a memorable one.'
The floating deck, which was opened to the public late October, is part of a $5.4 million upgrading project at Bedok Reservoir Park.
Its 1,350 sq m is about the size of three basketball courts, and can accommodate up to 670 people. The deck served as a floating performance stage in June during the Singapore Arts Festival.
And couples getting married are not the only ones who can celebrate their special day at this unique location. The PUB also welcomes companies that wish to hold their corporate events on the floating deck.
Precious resource
Ms De Mello said opening the floating deck to recreational and communal-bonding activities is part of its aims to bring people closer to the water so that they can better appreciate and cherish this precious resource.
A project manager with an events company, Miss Pearly Huang, 27, is looking forward to recommending the venue to her corporate clients.
'This place is suitable for intimate events like cocktail receptions. It is a nice change, away from the usual hotel ballrooms,' she said.
'There is the novelty of being out in the open surrounded by nature. Also, it is cost-saving as we do not need to pay to rent the venue.'
