SHE was watching television in her flat when she heard her neighbour, Ms Goh Ah Huay, shouting in Hokkien “Help, robbery!”

Madam Wang Shu Xian, 60, rushed out and found her 91-year-old neighbour frightened and shaking.

A snatch thief had escaped with a gold chain after pulling it off Ms Goh’s neck.

Madam Wang called the police, but by the time they arrived, the thief was long gone.

The police eventually nabbed the culprit, Annabell Joan Garnell, 43, who was jobless.

Yesterday, Garnell, who had previous convictions, was jailed five years after pleading guilty to two charges of theft in a district court.
