A STOMPer, who was flying on an Alitalia flight from Rome to Amsterdam, was shocked to discover Singaporeans behaving badly even on a European domestic flight.
In an email to STOMP, the STOMPer recounted:
“I was flying on the AZ 132 flight from Rome to Amsterdam on Sunday (Oct 5) on a personal trip and was amazed that even when travelling on a flight so far from home, a group of Singaporeans were complaining loudly and showing their ugly behaviour.
“They were travelling in a group but placed in separate seats across the plane.
“They were shouting across to each other and talking loudly in Hokkien, Teochew and Mandarin, without caring that there were other passengers on board the flight.
“One of the ladies who was sitting next to her husband, removed her shoe and placed her feet onto his lap. An Italian passenger who saw that shook his head and wrinkled his nose.
“Another lady complained loudly about the snacks they were serving on board the one and a half hour flight.
“She asked for a sandwich, out of the panna cotta or sandwiches they were serving, and when she discovered that the sandwich had beef in it, she walked right up to the air stewardess and returned it.
“She complained that the air stewardess should not have served her beef.
“I am just so shocked by their behaviour and the fact that they were waving their red passports so proudly.
“I could not bear to tell the passenger who was sitting next to me where I was from, when he tried to make polite conversation, because I did not want to be associated with the rest of the Singaporeans on the plane.”
The STOMPer added her thoughts on their ungracious behaviour.
"Why is that even with all the urging by the government for Singaporeans to become gracious, there is still a huge group that will give us a bad name overseas?"
