A STOMPer wondered if the name of an expressway in Malaysia was changed after he saw a map of the Iskandar area in an international newspaper.

In an email which was sent to STOMP today (Dec 30), the STOMPer sent in this picture of a map that was printed in the advertising supplement of the International Herald Tribune on Dec 22.

The contributor shared his thoughts:

“The back page contained a write up on the Iskandar zone as well as a map.

“Immediately, I noticed that the SLE (I could be wrong here) was renamed the Singapore-Johor Bahru Ring Road.

“Maybe we should rename the North-South Highway to "Singapore-Thailand Expressway" - the STE. I think it sounds rather catchy.”

“Interestingly enough, if you noticed the caption for the map, it mentions that the zone also ‘includes two major ports’.

“Hence, Malaysia has not only renamed our expressway but also claims that the Port of Singapore is part of the zone.”

Johor state has two major ports - Pasir Gudang and Tg Pelapas. Minor one includes Kukup, Tg Pengelih, Batu Pahat, Muar and Mersing.

Well we do have Johor Road - and you know what it is famous for - definitely not a history of their Sultan.
