Use Vietnam as a comparison reference. USA died their ass, lost their limbs, and balls, and got countless MIA, exceeding 10 years of bleeding in Vietnam == still got kicked out by Viet Cong! Lan Lan!
China whacked the same Viet Gong not long after that, and within only 1 month, Hanoi was well within reach and the Viet Cong got destroyed of all forces they had that could block PLA from entering Hanoi at that time, divisions from the south can not reach north in time to prevent fall of Hanoi. But Deng Xiao Ping ordered withdrawal instead of taking Hanoi, the front line field marshal 许世友 was furious against this withdrawal order, he got so mad that no body in China dare to take the duty to welcome him at his victory return from Vietnam, fear to be shot by him!
Comparing military abilities between USA & China, just reflected both both of them fighting against the same Viet Cong. 10 years = kicked out, vs 1 month full victory.
PLA destroyed 4 Viet Cong Divisions plus 12 Brigades. Wiped out all the northern forces, and all PLA will need is additional 2 hours they will drive into Hanoi nearly unresisted.

因为中国军队攻下谅山后，前面就是一马平川的平原了，中国装甲部队就可以完全展开，在两小时之内，就可以打到越南首都河内，打下河内没问题，但是许世友接到中央军委命令，撤军，许世友很是想不明白，后面的仗更好打了，为什么撤，许世友想得是通过打河内让越南把在柬埔寨的军队调回来，而他没考虑到中国北方强大而是越南的盟友苏联，就在许世友率领军队攻打越南之际，中国北方沈阳，北京，兰州，新疆各军区已做好高度戒备状态，邓小平考虑到如果攻越南太狠，就是逼着苏联介入，因为如果苏联仍袖手旁观，看着盟友被占领，而不伸出援手就是畏惧中国，所以中央下令撤军，这是避免把战争扩大，但是许世友心中颇为不满，由于许世友脾气火暴，所以他凯旋之际没人敢迎接他，接他就要成为老将军的出气筒了。

China also got whacked by vietcongs when china decided to invade its northern borders because viet invaded cambodia to get rid of murderous pol pot and his khmer rouge regime. Nobody thanked vietnam for that job. Instead, cambodia now buddy buddy with china instead of showing gratitude to vietcongs.
It is in the American DNA to blame everyone except themselves! They are so so self-righteous and so proud to show off their military power. Somebody hopefully Russia, China Iran or Turkey should finish them off and let them eat humble pie for once!
