Man Arrested for Goldsmith Robbery at New Upper Changi Road

Police have arrested a 35-year-old Chinese man who is suspected to be involved in the robbery of a goldsmith shop at Blk 210 New Upper Changi Road on 23 April 2010 where more than S$800,000 worth of jewellery was stolen.
Through extensive enquiries and follow-up investigations, coupled with assistance provided by Home Team Departments, Police identified and tracked down one of the suspects, who was arrested late last night (27 April 2010).
Investigations are still on-going to trace the other accomplices involved in the robbery.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 29 April 2010 for an offence of Armed Robbery under Section 392 and Section 397 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces a maximum imprisonment term of 10 years and shall also be liable for caning of not less than 12 strokes.
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner Ng Boon Gay said, “We will spare no efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. My officers have worked tirelessly round the clock to arrest of one of the suspects and we will continue with our efforts to track down the other accomplices. I would also like to take this opportunity to commend my officers for their dedication and professionalism in working on the case and encourage them to keep up the good work and also thank my Home Team colleagues for their assistance."
