</TR><!-- headline one : end --><!-- show image if available --></TBODY></TABLE>

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->PLEASE refer to Monday's report, 'Britain may move to ban 'happy hour''. It said that binge-drinking among teens and young adults has resulted many liver-related disorders and deaths. Britain plans to spend $22.7 million on a new public awareness campaign and wants to improve law enforcement against underage drinking.
In Singapore on my evenings out, I have seen teenagers high on alcohol and behaving badly. This trend must be put to a stop.
There are many well-heeled teenagers who patronise highly touted pubs and nightclubs. I am not aware if there is a house rule that no alcohol should be served to teens, just as shops are not allowed to sell cigarettes to them.
It is time the authorities looked into this before it is too late. Binge-drinking causes liver problems and we need our youngsters to be healthy and strong to lead us into the future.
Can the authorities consider measures to curb binge-drinking among teens, as Britain has done? Retnam Thillainathan
