I have asked my volunteers on what actually happened. It is clear that PSP has twisted the truth and has given an untrue picture of what happened.
These untrue accounts have also led to doxing and considerable distress, to my volunteers.
The following is a record of what happened on 4 January.
At about 3pm, on 4 January, a team of PAP volunteers started our regular outreach efforts, engaging residents at Goodview Gardens estate sharing information about our estate developments.
From efforts like food and essential items distribution to events encouraging our residents to stay active, our PAP volunteers regularly engage residents, reaching out to people of different ages and needs. This can involve groups and individuals interacting at community events in various activities.
At around 4pm, they encountered a few male PSP members who came from the void deck opposite where some of our female PAP volunteers were. The men were soon joined by a few more PSP members, who started to walk around the estate.
One of our PAP volunteers, whom I will call Male Volunteer 1, was getting out of the lift to join his team. He was held back by PSP member. That PSP member was joined by another two male PSP members who stepped into the lift. One of them then went on to intimidate Male Volunteer 1 and slapped his face twice - once in the lift and another time in the corridor. And all this while, my Male Volunteer 1 was also being insulted with the use of derogatory terms.
That same afternoon, another member of the team, whom I will call Male Volunteer 2, was also taunted by the same male PSP member (who had attacked and insulted
Male Volunteer 1 earlier).
Male Volunteer 2 used his phone to record the PSP member’s actions and insults.
That same afternoon, Male Volunteer 2 was confronted by another two male PSP members. One of the PSP members reached out for Male Volunteer 2 and forcibly pulled him by his shirt to forcibly take a wefie and video with him.
At about 4pm, while a group of our female PAP volunteers continued our engagement with the residents in the estate, they saw that their movements were being recorded by PSP members there, they also responded to do likewise.
At about 5.30pm, our team of PAP volunteers encountered the PSP members again at the sheltered walkway on their way to the nearby coffeeshop. The PSP members shouted at them and taunted them and took a photo of them.
These photos have since been posted online by PSP members Some female PAP volunteers who appeared in these wefies have fallen victim to doxxing. Some are currently undergoing counselling and extra care to protect them from such online harm.
These recent developments are concerning. When the incidents were brought to my attention, I was alarmed that two of our male volunteers were physically manhandled. We considered filing a police report but had then decided not to do so. We hoped that PSP will not repeat such conduct in future. We now see that despite the conduct above, it is PSP which has chosen to make allegations and file a police report. We look forward to a full police investigation, and for the whole truth to become public. That way, the public can know what actually happened. We are also providing assistance to our female volunteers who have been doxxed.
Often passionate and dedicated in their service, volunteers are quick to respond to defend their cause. We understand this and I hope everyone, will uphold and show mutual respect while serving the community.
PAP Bukit Gombak team remains committed to focusing our attention and efforts on serving the needs of residents in our estate. Extending our outreach to uplift and support the Bukit Gombak community is and will always be our top priority.
