Sex and the ‘money boys’ in the city
Compiled by Christina Tan
THEY are referred to as “money boys” and they serve sex to other men. Their activities have been known for some time and among their favourite spots to “fish” for customers is Jalan Raja Laut in Kuala Lumpur. In a special report in its central edition, Berita Harian said the youths, in their 20s and 30s, would pace the pavements between the City Hall and EPF buildings from 9pm to 2am daily and enter cars that stop by the roadside.
The paper said some form of “bargaining” would occur in the car. Once a deal was clinched, the customer would be brought to a house or some cheap hotel. A visitor to the nearby Dataran Merdeka told a reporter that it was hard to identify the “money boys” as they looked normal.
To verify the claims, the paper went undercover for four days at Jalan Raja Laut, nicknamed Jurassic Park by some streetwalkers, and found that the “money boys” were shrewd about selecting their customers. Not anyone who calls out from a car for a session of unnatural sex is entertained. A reporter who posed as a customer was offered sex by a boy named Rizal for RM80. Rizal said he would usually go to cheap hotels around the city or follow his customer home.
