When the government decry the lack of work etiquette and service attitude one just wonder whether big corporations really care or demand that in this day and age. I can't help noticing the downward slide over the last five years that lead me to believe they are not facing any pressure from the government to uphold the country's image in terms of service as far as can be seen, at outlets in the HDB heartlands.

Now, at the Tampines East Community Centre; bastion of the Minister of National Development, Boss of Bosses of HDB Mr. Mah Boh Tan, you have a fast food outlet that is running 24/7 but without toilet facilities between 9pm and 9am because the toilets belong to the CC itself the last time I checked. The outlet look aged and that image is not in anyway helped by the delivery boys in rumpled uniforms and tattered jeans with slippers walking in and out of the outlet when they are not smoking or playing guitars right outside the entrance, at the same time blocking the entrance to the CC with their motor bikes and their sitting on the steps. Outside the airconditioned premises are tables for outdoor seating. Here you can smell the stench of stale urine and once excrement. I am bringing this up because I see it as a prelude to the decline of HDB towns into semi ghettos if nothing is done to arrest it. If this can happen right under MBT's nose, what about places far from him? As for the corporation running the outlet, I don't think they care. Why should they when they providing high employment numbers and taxes. Money talks as it is said.
