Serial housebreakers arrested

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested two men, aged 27 and 25, for suspected involvement in at least four cases of housebreaking.
Between Nov 3 and Nov 14, 2013, police received reports of housebreaking that occurred in the vicinity of Kim Keat Road and Boon Teck Road.
Following the reports, officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted extensive investigations and ground enquiries, and managed to establish the identity of one of the men.
On Nov 22, 2013, an operation was mounted which led to the arrest of the 27-year-old man at Hougang Avenue 6.
He was in possession of jewellery and cash which are believed to be loot from the recent break-ins. Through follow-up investigations, his 25-year-old accomplice was arrested in the next two hours.
If convicted, they face a jail term of up to 14 years.
Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Lu Yeow Lim, commended his officers for their excellent investigations and ground coordination resulting in the arrests.
Home owners are advised to adopt the following preventive measures against housebreaking:
a. Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;
b. Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even for a short while;
c. Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition;
d. Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box; and
e. If going away for a prolonged period, suspend the newspaper subscription and arrange for someone to clear mails and check on your home regularly.
