Serial housebreaker arrested

SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 45-year-old man for housebreaking in the vicinity of Tras Street.
On Feb 24 at about 7.55 am, the victim reported to the police that her office located along Tras Street was broken into and ransacked. Cash amounting to about $2,000 was missing. On the same day at about 8am, two other nearby office tenants reported that there were signs of unsuccessful break-in attempts.
Officers from Central Police Division conducted extensive forensics and ground enquiries. They established the suspect's identity after reviewing CCTV footage and conducting on-scene investigations.
The suspect was arrested during an ambush operation in the vicinity of Upper Cross Street on March 19. Police investigations are ongoing.
He will be charged in Court on March 21 for housebreaking and theft. If convicted, he faces a prison term of up to 10 years.
The public is also advised to secure their office premises in the following ways:
- use good quality doors and locks;
- install a burglar alarm and sensor light and/or closed circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into their premises;
- and to deposit valuables and large sums of cash in banks.
