Sentosa, previously called Pulau Blakang Mati, is a resort island in Singapore. It was once a British military base and a Japanese prisoner of war camp, and many Chinese were found killed on its beach during the Japanese occupation. The island was renamed Sentosa and turned into a tourist destination in 1972, and it is now home to a popular resort that receives some twenty million visitors per year.[2] Attractions include a 2 km (1.2 mi) long sheltered beach, Fort Siloso, two golf courses, the Merlion, 14 hotels, and the Resorts World Sentosa, featuring the theme park Universal Studios Singapore and one of Singapore's two casinos.

Sentosa is marked as Blacan mati (left, above Singapura) in this 1604 map of Singapura by the Malay-Portuguese cartographer Manuel Godinho de Erédia. The Malay Peninsula (Ujontana) to the right.
The name Sentosa translates as "peace and tranquility" in Malay, which was in turn derived from the Sanskrit term Santosha (संतोष), meaning "contentment, satisfaction".[3][4] Sentosa was formerly known as Pulau Blakang Mati[5][6] which in Malay means the "Island of Death Behind".[7][8]
The name Blakang Mati is old; an island was identified as Blacan Mati in Manuel Godinho de Erédia's 1604 map of Singapore. Other early references to the island of Blakang Mati include Burne Beard Island in Wilde's 1780 MS map, Pulau Niry, Nirifa from 1690 to 1700, and the nineteenth century reference as Pulau Panjang (J.H. Moor). However, early maps did not separate Blakang Mati from the adjacent island of Pulau Brani, so it is uncertain to which island the seventeenth century place names referred.
The island has changed name several time. Up to 1830, it was called Pulau Panjang ("long island"). In an 1828 sketch of Singapore Island, the island is referred to as Po. Panjang. According to Bennett (1834), the name Blakang Mati was only given to the hill on the island by the Malay villagers on the island. The Malay name for this island is literally translated as "dead back" or "behind the dead"; blakang means "at the back" or "behind" or "after"; mati means "dead". It is also called the "dead island" or the "island of the dead" or perhaps "island of after death".

history
Sentosa Island was originally a small fishing village named Pulau Belakang Mati. In Malay it means "living islands hidden behind it." In World War II, this was Britain's military fortress and built fortifications such as the Siloso Fort. The British forces deployed defensive artillery here, pointing south, ready to resist Japan’s offensive from the sea. However, the Japanese eventually attacked and occupied Singapore from the north, and used the same tricks as previously invading Malaya (now West Malaysia or Peninsular Malaysia).
In 1967, the British returned the island to the newly established Singapore government. In 1972, the Singaporean government decided to develop the island into a domestic holiday tourist attraction. In this way, according to public suggestions, the island was renamed "Sentosa", meaning "quiet" in Malay. In 1974, the cable car system between Sentosa and Huabaishan was officially opened.
From the 1980s to the 1990s, the island successively built a number of amusement facilities, including restoration of the Siloso Fort, the construction of the Singapore & Surrender Chambers Museum, the musical fountain and the underwater world. In 1992, the bridge over the Sentosa land was officially opened. However, the vast majority of amusement facilities in Sentosa require a fee, causing locals to gradually lose interest in the site. Therefore, there is a joke saying: "Sentosa is expensive and there is nothing to read." [1]
Therefore, since 2006, the Singaporean government has decided to build Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios Singapore theme parks on the island, and to transform the island's facilities to attract locals and overseas visitors. However, the environmental assessment report indicated that the project caused the loss of biodiversity, habitat destruction, soil erosion, climate change and other destructive ecological impacts. [2]
Since 2007, the island’s original docks, fountain gardens, musical fountains, and Asian Village facilities have been demolished due to the construction of Genting World Sentosa and Universal Studios Singapore. The original site was completed in 2010-2011.

U.S. President Trump and North Korea’s top leader Kim Jong Eun’s “historic date” is scheduled for June 12. Well, the "date" location is naturally a good choice. Just yesterday, White House Spokesman Saunders stated in Twitter that the two “dating” sites were scheduled for Singapore’s Sentosa Island.
Sentosa Island, eh, the name sounds good. However, what exactly is this? The author takes you to find out.
Pirate chaos
Singapore is located in the golden waters of major routes between India and China, which makes it an ideal location for maritime trade. In the 19th century as a British trading station, Singapore began to establish its own status. But before that, Singapore was also a very prosperous trade center, and vendors were also in an endless stream. Of course, pirates from all sides are also frequent patrons. The original name of Sentosa Island was Pulau Blakang Mati. Later, people translated it directly as "island behind deat." As the name suggests, it naturally originated from the notoriously violent pirates.
Massacre ruins
_101864574_hi047199497
After the defeat of the British colonial force, Singapore fell into the hands of Japan in 1942. It was "given" a new Japanese name Syonan, meaning the light of the South. First, the population of the island is mainly Malay, Chinese, and Buji. In the next few years, the Japanese massacred tens of thousands of people and eliminated anti-Japanese personnel from the Chinese community. Chinese men between the ages of 18 and 50 were summoned to different locations, then shot by machine guns and then thrown into the sea. The beach of Sentosa Island is a site of massacre, and in the upcoming "special gold" hotel, it can overlook this place. On Sentosa Island, Japan also established a prisoner of war camp and held 400 Allied soldiers and gunners.
Tourism boom and fatal accident
In the 1970s, the Singapore government renamed Sentosa Island, which means "peace and peace" and intends to develop it as a tourist attraction. However, the island is still experiencing constant problems. On January 30, 1983, a cableway on Sentosa Island was broken by an oil drilling ship. Two cars fell from the height of 60 meters into the sea and 7 people died. Previously, a water park called Dream Island opened, but it is often complained of security risks. An 8-year-old girl played in this park in 2000 and was drowned after the skin fell over. The park also closed after two years. Later, Sentosa Island returned to the world with a new look, a Universal Studios theme park, a new water park and Resorts World Casino, so as to attract thousands of Singaporeans and tourists every year.

The Sentosa Cove in Sentosa Island is a world-class retreat where you can find houses with marinas (what parking spaces are). There are golf courses in some of Singapore's most extravagant hotels and Michelin restaurants.
So the ultimate question came, and why did you decide on Sentosa Island?
First, it is located in the southern part of Singapore, 500 meters south of Singapore's main island. It is not too near, and it also ensures security. Second, there are few ways to enter the island and it is easy to deploy safely. There are only cable cars, monorails, pedestrian paths and car tunnels. Finally, if you talk about how to get tired, Trump should not play golf with Kim Jong-un.
The author previously wrote an article about Kim Jong Eun’s mount. In view of the geographical location of Sentosa Island, what kind of plane is still available, and it is entirely possible to visit the yacht!
