S'pore man claims his motorcycle brakes got cut off while he shopped in JB mall

The man said he rode his motorcycle to Johor Bahru and parked at a shopping mall, at around 11am.

He returned to the motorcycle at 7pm that day, only to find that his front brake cables had been cut, and the calipers had been removed.
Commenters also highlighted that such incidents do not only happen to visitors.

Singaporean motorists traveling in Malaysia are reminded they can be stopped from exiting Malaysia, should they have unpaid police summons. This includes those who have warrants of arrest issued by the court, says Malaysian police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) Bukit Aman director Datuk Mat Kasim Karim.

To date, 108,757 traffic summons issued to Singaporean motorists between 2016 to 2021 (out of a total of 143,427 summons issued) have yet to be settled, as reported by Berita Harian. JSPT reminds Singaporean traffic offenders with outstanding summons Pol 170A or Pol 257 they can be prevented from leaving Malaysia under Section 66J of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 24(4) of the Police Act 1967,” Mat Kasim said.

“Should the offender have an outstanding warrant, they will be arrested and brought forward to the court on an immediate basis. Mr Mat Kasim said that the summonses issued were for various traffic offences such as driving over the speed limit, causing road accidents, traffic obstructions, cutting queues, ignoring traffic signs, and not wearing seat belts. Other offences included using registration numbers that do not follow the regulations or specifications and for having no brake lights. He denied allegations that there were weaknesses in enforcement against Singapore citizens.

He said that the traffic police welcomed the registration of Singaporeans’ vehicles with the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) through the Road Charge (RC) collection system and Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) records which will be effective at the country's border gates soon. He said the system allowed police to obtain information on the traffic offenders for the purpose of issuing summons notices.

According to the Facebook posting, the Singaporean claimed that he was flagged down by the patrolmen who apparently told him that he had no visa to enter the city, did not possess a Malaysian driving license, and drove against traffic.

He alleged that the cops had told him that he could “treat” them if he did not want to be arrested. The foreigner also claimed that the video showed him throwing the bribe money into the patrol car as ordered by the cops, who also told him not to place his hands inside the vehicle.
