Security guard jailed, caned
<!-- by line --> By Khushwant Singh
FOR asking three passengers their destination again, a CityCab driver was punched in the face in February last year. On Friday, a district court sentenced Raguvaran Murali, 39, to 15 months in jail and three strokes of the cane. He pleaded guilty last month to punching Mr Sim Seng Huat, 49. The cabby suffered a fracture of the right cheek bone and loosening of five teeth and was given two days' medical leave. According to court documents, Raguvaran boarded the taxi along Neil Road with Mr Michael Teo Keong Ee, 53, and another man, known only as Kris at 11am on Feb 2 last year.
Kris told Mr Sim to drive them to Lorong 12 Geylang. The cabby asked him to repeat it. Kris then asked the cabby if he was 'unhappy' but the cabby said that he had only wanted to confirm the destination as he did not hear it clearly the first time. Raguvaran then asked Mr Sim to stop the cab and punched him twice when the cabby refused to step out. The three passengers then hailed another taxi and left. Police tracked down Mr Teo, who led them to Raguvaran.
