KUALA LUMPUR - Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz, the man who said that he had sex with Malaysia's Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali, was on Friday (June 14) arrested by police at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), The Malaysian Insight online news website reported.
He was picked up by the police at about 5.30pm, the report said.
It was not clear why he was arrested by the police. But the authorities have said they are working to establish who is behind the release of gay sex video clips on Tuesday that showed two men having sex. Mr Haziq has said that he was one of the men in the video and that his partner was Datuk Seri Azmin. The minister has denied this and said that the video was designed to destroy his political career.
The video has rocked Malaysian politics as Mr Azmin, 54, is deputy president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), the party with the most number of MPs in Parliament. He is seen in some circles as a future prime minister. PKR is led by Prime-Minister-in-waiting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Mr Haziq's lawyer, Ramesh Sivakumar, was quoted by Free Malaysia Today news site as saying that his client was picked up by the police at the budget terminal of KLIA, klia2, as he was about to take a flight out of Kuala Lumpur. “I am on my way to the police station there” in Sepang, he told FMT.
Mr Haziq, 27, is Youth chief of PKR for Santubong district in his native Sarawak state.

He worked as the principal private secretary to the Deputy Minister of Primary Industries in Putrajaya, before his suspension on Thursday following the release of the video.

Malaysia sex-video allegations show up rift within Anwar's political party

He is not the first person arrested in police investigations into the case.
Police on Thursday arrested two opposition politicians, including Umno supreme council member Lokman Adam, for refusing to cooperate with the men in blue when they went to search his house in Kajang, Selangor. The other politician arrested was a member of the Malaysian Indian Congress who was with Datuk Lokman at the time.
Mr Lokman, who was communications director at the Ministry of Finance when former premier Najib Razak was finance minister, on Tuesday made a police report, asking the authorities to investigate the sex video and claims of corruption against Azmin.

Malay MailMr Azmin said he has told his lawyers to take appropriate legal action against those who made the allegations and other perpetrators.

KUALA LUMPUR — A new gay sex video and images targeting Datuk Seri Azmin Ali were released to the media and Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders this evening, barely two hours after the minister decried the personal attack against him.
Several media personnel, including one Malay Mail reporter, and the politicians were added at around 7pm to a new WhatsApp group which subsequently forwarded one video and two images of homosexual sex.
The group was named “Azmin ali part 2/4”, implying that there could be two more releases in the future.
Yesterday, several videos of roughly 90 seconds each began circulating on social media which depicted a man performing sexual acts on another man who allegedly resembles the minister.
The videos were first spread to journalists on a WhatsApp group purposely created for it, where several screenshots of bank transactions believed to be doctored with Mr Azmin’s name were also attached.
In response, Mr Azmin has categorically denied he was purportedly the man in a gay sex video widely shared across social media networks this week, claiming it was a “vicious libel” against him.
The economics affairs minister said he has also told his lawyers to take appropriate legal action against those who made the allegations and other perpetrators, and he will use all legal means available to expose the culprits behind the alleged plot. MALAY MAIL

Slander worse than murder, Anwar warns

In the wake of allegations resulting from sex video leaks and graft claims implicating a cabinet minister, Anwar Ibrahim has cautioned against slander, saying that it can be “worse than murder”.
In a personal online post today, the prime minister-in-waiting said this was because slander could destroy individuals, happiness and unity, all of which were considered “the ties of society”.
He cited a text from the Quran, Surah al-Baqarah, which states that "slander is worse than murder".
“Unfortunately, slander is part and parcel of politics - when they fail to subdue a person with facts and principles, the road of slander and lies becomes their choice.
“Repeat (the slander), repeat and repeat...thus it becomes a ‘truth’, especially in the social media and ‘fake news’ age. I had long been defamed in years past and spent my whole life fighting (it).
“I lost friends and time with my loved ones. I do not wish that on anyone else,” the PKR president said in an Instagram post today.
Anwar himself was also the subject of a similar controversy when, in 2011, a video featuring a man said to resemble him was screened to members of the press.
Anwar had spent almost a decade behind bars following sodomy and corruption charges levied against him back in 1998 and 2014 under the premierships of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, during the latter’s first stint as premier, and Najib Abdul Razak.
The current PKR president constantly maintained his innocence and claims the charges and subsequent convictions were politically motivated.
He received a royal pardon and was released from jail when Pakatan Harapan took over the government in May 2018.
The post by Anwar, who is also Port Dickson MP, comes amid a host of allegations being bandied about after two sets of sex videos featuring two men were mysteriously leaked to the press along with purported bank documents on an illicit money transfer - all of which implicated Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali.
Amid the release of the clips and documents, Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz claimed he was one of the men in the video.
He alleged that Azmin was the other man in the clips, and urged the latter to be investigated for corruption.
The PKR deputy president has since denied all allegations and stated the videos were an attempt at character assassination.
Meanwhile, in his post today, Anwar advised people not to share slanderous allegations “without thinking”.
He warned that such challenges to destroy unity could only be defeated if everyone maintained their principles and integrity.
He had also spoken out against the circulation of the video, saying on Wednesday that it was gutter politics and thought his own experience would have been “the last”.
Anwar had also reportedly denied that the leaking of the video clips was the result of internal politics within PKR.
