IPOH - CALL it a case of a bungling robber. Or simply one whose luck just ran out on him - twice.
A robber got more than what he bargained for when he broke into a house in Ipoh, Malaysia, last Wednesday.
Housewife S.Y. Cheong said she was watching television in her bedroom at about 1pm when she heard a noise from her storeroom, reported The Star.
"I saw a hole in the ceiling. I picked up a rolled-up cardboard and went looking for the intruder," Madam Cheong, 32, said yesterday.
She went downstairs and was shocked when she saw a shirtless man armed with a knife.
"I confronted him and hit his hand with the cardboard.
"His knife fell and I picked it up. Using his knife, I warned him to leave my house," said Madam Cheong, who was home alone at the time.
Panic
The suspect panicked and tried to escape through the back, but failed as he had grabbed the keys to the front door instead.
Desperate to escape, he struggled with Madam Cheong to retrieve his knife and slashed her on the arm.
"But I was not willing to let him go and reached out for his knife. We struggled for a while longer until he managed to get away through the ceiling," she added.
The story didn't end there.
The two ran into each other again when they both sought treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital later.
Said Madam Cheong: "He was also seeking treatment. It was only then that I realised that he was also hurt.
"I informed police at the hospital and they arrested him."
Police said the suspect was remanded and was previously convicted for a drug-related offence.
