Will the US and the West suddenly like SG more if it is more Human Rights centred? Why does SG already gain access to US military hardware, get easily signed free trade agreements when it is not democratic and human rights centred? Will it get better treatment once it is democratic?

Human rights will do nothing for Singapore. In fact, allowing sinkies too much freedom may well cause untold chaos!

Singapore is NOT a homogeneous country. There are many sensitivities surrounding race, language and religion. It is therefore necessary to curtail freedoms for the common good.

Yugoslavia is a perfect example of how a country can end up being torn apart from within without firm leadership.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakup_of_Yugoslavia

Economic collapse and the international climate

Yugoslavia was once a regional industrial power and economic success. Twenty years before 1980, annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth averaged 6.1 percent, medical care was free, literacy was 91 percent, and life expectancy was 72 years.[1] But after a decade of Western economic ministrations and five years of disintegration, war, boycott, and embargo, the economy of Yugoslavia collapsed.
Death of Josip Broz Tito

After the death of President Josip Broz Tito on May 4, 1980, ethnic tension grew in Yugoslavia. The death of Tito removed what many Yugoslavs and western observers saw as the country's main unifying force. In 1986, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) contributed significantly to the rise of nationalist sentiments, as it drafted the controversial SANU Memorandum protesting against the weakening of the Serbian central government.

Of course not!

Saudi Arabia does not have elected leaders, has one of the poorest human rights records of any nation on earth, and locks up tens of thousands of prisoners of conscience in prisons 6 storeys underground.

Yet it is one of the strongest allies of the US. The moment a nascent 'people's revolution' starts fomenting, you can be sure US jets will swarm in and troops airdropped to nip it in the bud.

Human rights movement will only be effective in places where there are really bad human rights record. In SG where we only have minor human rights problem and enjoying very high standard of living, the west won't even bother looking at U. Only Chee and his constant bashing of SG in front of Ang Mohs, create any sort of problems for us. If he ever gets elected, all this would go away which is why he keeps trying his best NOT to get elected

Do you have the human rights to ask where has your CPF monies goes to?
Do you have the human rights to say yes to minimum wages in sg?
Do you have the human rights to influence the decision of setting up 2 casinos in sg?
Do you have the human rights to say no to GRC system during election?
Do you have the human rights to say no to rising housing prices and overflooding of FT issues?
Do you have the human rights to say no to 10% GST?
Do you have the human rights to vote freely for the opposition without fear of getting penalised?
.............................................

And we are only talking about human rights on bread and butter issue here,
the things that directly affect your livelihood.
And take note of my last point.
"Do you have the human rights to vote freely for the opposition without fear of getting penalised?"
Economic collapse and disintegration has nothing to do with human rights.
It is the mismanagement of the people controlling the fund that cause the collapse.

Jackie Chan has also said Chinese shouldn't get more freedom.

"Chan launched a broadside against calls for more freedom in China this weekend, saying he wasn't sure if a free society was what the country needed and that Chinese people needed to be controlled. "

It is SDP's value and preference, these things Human Rights / Democracy etc. While I believe only in what I posted at URL above. But these things does not really matter.

You would be too greedy if you expected every bit of value or political position or preference MUST die die positively ensure improvement in SG, reflected in yr thread title. It is not necessary.

In fact for this GE, I am not particularly helping any party, and it does not matter either. What matters now is there should be lots of non-PAP nominations for the people to have the chance to go and cast their votes against LEEgime, instead of letting them walk over like before. Weather these parties or candidates believed in Human Rights or Tua-Pak-Kong or Allah, does not matter at all.:cool:

I am campaigning against LEEgime, but not for any particular opposition nor candidate this time, mainly because I am sure that LKy the old dog thief isn't able to come out to bite opposition like the previous GE. I knew for sure then the bastard was set to bite SDP & CSJ, so I went there to ambush him, then also the 2nd target could be late JBJ, I thus also backed JBJ, awaiting for the old dog to come biting. The fact is I never believed in what JBJ / CSJ believed, and it took me tremendous political compromise in order just to help them.

SDP promotes freedom of assembly / expression / press / etc and promotes various sorts of kindness like abolish Death Penalty etc. I will only agree to certain freedoms, but not to these undue or over-killed kindness. LKy LEEgime needed corrupt measures to protect their incompetent lame bastard regime, like rats hiding behind the wall, and inside their holes. A politically confident regime will not need to disgrace itself this way. You can see that even PRC allowed so many protests to go on, all Beijing was protecting was just against the west from utilizing these voices / expressions of the Chinese people, to stir international concerns. If the Chinese people could kept their expressions away from the western eyes, and strictly keep it a domestic matter between Chinese People & their own Govt, I can see that Beijing would be very comfortable and confident to tolerate many forms of scaled up expressions. I take for example Mao's Cultural Revolution was huge scale and extreme form of political expressions, but behind closed doors and away from western influence - almost entirely. The CCP did it and under the circumstance that the west had no access to influence / manipulate / utilize the Cultural Revolution. During Cultural Revolution millions got killed / tortured / punished, students and workers can challenge their superiors, govt leaders had been captured and dragged on to the streets to be paraded by protesters, etc etc, weapons from the Red Guards were used to fight mere civil war in some towns, way way much wilder than Thais' Red Shirt / Yellow Shirt.:wink: So what? CCP regime has the confident and ability to survive this sort of revolution! LKy lame bastards panicked when I & CSC & Monica & Charles took placards to stand outside CPFB.

LEEgime needs all their lame bastard shield and corrupted protections, because they are like rats in the holes, no balls, no strength, no confident and DARE NOT FACE ANY ONE, politically.

In the past few years we had been able to burn the rats out of their holes, and changed the scenario. When the post LEEgime govt come, they should not try to hide themselves behind the lame protection abusing state establishments any more, when LEEgime already lost in this, no other forthcoming govt can do this again. This is like what I posted in the Ivory Coast thread, our reform goes to the next stage, that we secured our ways to get around these protections to attack the lame bastards.

After helping these kind-hearted opposition to fight LEEgime, I however won't want to see their kindness go overboard. Human Rights and freedom and all these kindness provided too much weakness and holes for bastards to exploit the whole damn world. When system are made in these kind values, the honest upright kind people would only benefit little instead of really taking advantage of such system, however, the selfish greedy bastards will EXPLOIT and ABUSE such systems EXTREMELY. Hitler for example raised up from within a very democratic system and constitution of Germany, exploiting emergency power etc.
As a result the kind honest and upright people will actually lose out more in these so called democratic and human rights systems.

There are those with no brains who demonize human rights groups. Its about polemics. On one hand you got zero human rights like Saudi Arabia and the other end maybe places like Sweden. Singapore is in the middle with PAP pushing towards Saudi for their own interests, using detention and defamation laws, zero tolerance on peaceful protests, illegal assembly if 3 or more, GRCs to pervert democratic process and force bimbos like rin tin tin on us. A true son of Singapore does not allow this to happen but he cannot do it alone. That is why opposition matter. And if non aligned human rights groups is not the way to push towards then tell me who then? The imposter Leong Sam turned priest? Go human rights and Singapore self destruct? It should anyway as this island has no value in future history of mankind if we go Saudi way.

Let's see American imprisons people without trial and tortures them; no one dares calls them human rights violators? America illegally invades another country--no one dares bring thme to court? What is human rights when America also trades with Israel--a country that kills innocent civilians just because they are of another race? Has human rights improvement done anything for America let alone the world?

Human rights in itself will do nothing for SG.

However human rights MAY indirectly lead to: more questioning of PAP, therefore disallowing PAP from implementing unpopular policies without consulting S'poreans.

Human Rights can be easily proven to be a joke in a very simple and brutal test.

Do like Libyan and unleash the beast of civil war rebellion, feed LKY & PAP to the blood thirsty mobs, have them hacked up piece by piece. While they are being hacked up, they will not scream god knowing god won't come to help. But you will see them scream: CHEE SOON JUAN where are you? Come and save our lives! Don't we have Human Rights?

And that's how Human Rights is supposed to work.
