Ah Beng (NS) loves to whine daily about how he has to serve NS and as a consequence is disadvantaged when it comes to a place in the university or in the employment market. Yet when SDP proposes to scale back the defence budget (which by the way, forms the largest component of overall budget), Ah Beng (NS) says nay. The savings from the defence budget can be channeled to more productive use. SDP has also proposed in the past to reduce the NS stint. Perhaps what Ah Beng really wants is for NS to be increased to 5 years instead.
