SDP to upgrade communications capability
Wednesday, 01 June 2011
Singapore Democrats
Even as we lead the political scene in online communications, the Singapore Democrats are looking at how we can further enhance our capability to reach out to Singaporeans on the Internet.
This was the topic of discussion by the Communications Sub-Committee at our Road to 2016 workshop held last Saturday. The group attracted more than 20 professionals in the field of advertising, marketing, video & film productions, event management and writers.
The discussion was facilitated by communications expert Mr Faz Yosef. He was assisted by media consultant and producer Ms Serena Lau.
The group wasted no time in getting down to business, identifying the revamping of The New Democrat, our party newspaper, as one of its first projects.
It will look into giving the newspaper a fresh look for cross-over demographic appeal. A sub-team of writers will drive content while another sub-team will take charge of art direction.
Altogether the newsletter will be a more dynamic publication in feel, texture, visual layout and direction. The Sub-Committee will also explore advertising sales and increased circulation of the newsletter. The new-look is scheduled to be launched in the 4th quarter of this year.
Video production will also be stepped up. Given the new-found expertise, our video production team will look into content, visual appeal, scripting and final packaging of the videos. It will also search for talent for the videos.
The third major project will be to further develop this website and increase its outreach. An in-depth study will be carried out over the next several weeks. The team will continue the SDP's trail-blazing of online communication and bring the party to the next level of operation in the digital sphere.
The new Editorial Team is headed by television producer Ms Nadine Keller who runs her own production company. Other new faces who will be part of the team are: Mr Louis Law and Ms Yun Ng (Art Direction), Ms Patricia Khoo (Finance & Budget), and Ms Nina Ee (Business Development).
Key members who will continue to assist in the team are Mr Seelan Palay, Mr Chong Kai Xiong, Ms Suraya Akbar and Mr Ahmad Suhaimi. More members will be identified over the next few weeks to spearhead the massive communications effort as we start our drive towards the 2016 general elections.
"I'm proud to have all these new faces come on board,” said Mr Faz. “Steering this new team to the next level to engage the nation is a daunting task, but we are confident of achieving our goal. We will contribute to the best of our abilities."
