Written by Our Correspondent
The Singapore Democratic Party has taken PAP MP Dr Teo Ho Pin to task over his silence on the rental hike by Sheng Siong after it took over 5 wet markets from HDB.
SDP had written to Dr Teo last year imploring him to join them to oppose the sale of the Fajar wet market under his constituency of Bukit Panjang to Sheng Siong.
Dr Teo did not answer SDP directly, but told the media that “it was he who lobbied HDB to build the wet market in 1996 and he had been meeting the residents, stallholders and grassroots leaders recently to “resolve” the issue.”
There were no subsequent updates from Dr Teo on what he did exactly to “resolve” the matter which is now hanging in the air as affected stallholders deliberate whether to stay put.
SDP’s Assistant Secretary-General Mr John Tan had written to Dr Teo imploring him to state his stance clearly:
“Remaining silent is not an option. Do you support the raising of the rental? If you don’t, will you publicly condemn Sheng Siong’s reprehensible move? Are you going to do anything to help resolve the matter?”
He revealed that SDP will “do whatever it takes” to get Sheng Siong to reverse its decision without elaborating more on it and invited Dr Teo to join them:
“In the coming months and weeks, the SDP will do everything we can can to get Sheng Siong to reverse its decision. We invite you to join us in our effort. What do you say?”
It is highly unlikely that SDP will ever get a reply from Dr Teo who won the single seat of Bukit Panjang by a whooping margin of nearly 77 percent in the last general election.
Perhaps SDP has misunderstood Dr Teo’s intentions. His promise to “resolve” the issue is not to stop Sheng Siong from raising the rental, but to persuade the stallholders to accept the inevitable.
The duty of PAP MPs is not to speak up for the people or to fight for their rights, but rather to “explain” the PAP’s policies to them, to make them understand and if unnecessary “force” them down their throats.
SDP should just leave the hapless Dr Teo alone and show us what it is capable of. As PAP minister Lim Swee Say proclaimed proudly in Parliament not too long ago:
“We (PAP) are DEAF to all criticisms.”

=> The 77% deserve it! Sorry for the 23%!

Yes, I would like to participate in your effort. Can SDP elaborate more on this ? Meeting venue/date etc where we can partake in suggestions to oppose the SS’s rental hike.

Well, the PAP govt will claim that market forces at work again! And it is not the govt that’s increasing the rent; now ‘pass the blame and don’t blame me’.

Like I said many times in my previous postings. The MIW would blow their own horns to lay claims on what is good. Then when things get bad, they would keep silent and then you will see their colleagues coming to their defense to explain to the public by blaming everybody and anything under the sun but themselves. Since when will the MIW think for the citizens? Its all about ‘Show me the Money.” Money can even buy family ties and ‘all can do’ in a country like ours. Can anyone really say that Singapore is really a transparent state? Have anyone of us been told about how our money had been lost in the investment?
When all those pappies were asked about what they were to do for the people, they would just shaft off their responsibilities to one another. When ask a Minister for help, he/she will tell you to see your MP. When see your MP, he/she will tell you that he/she can’t really do anything for you for the different ministries who are in-charged and their hands are tied up. Then why are we electing in those bloody Idiots and paying them big pay check foe doing nothing for us? How on earth did all these happened? How long are we going to take all these? Are we going just complain only? Why vote in the monkeys to get the lion’s share while we are getting the peanuts? Better get someone who is empty that will at least make the most noise.
You think that its only the stallholders that will be affected? The consumers will be affected. Prices will increase as well. Frankly, inflation is man made. Its about business raising their cost and the citizens who really have no choice but to pay the price which is monopolized by the business who are somehow linked to the government. Aren’t many of the businesses in Singapore linked to the Pappies or should in say the CEO of Singapore? Anyway, always look at the big picture.
With the cost rising and our pay is not, Singaporeans will have to be ready to work till we die.But then again, we won’t even be having a job when we are old as they will be going to cheaper labours, we better be ready to sleep on the road if only we can. While all the pappies and their kinds with the foreigners will have a safe havens secure for themselves. The elites would have milked enough to retire safely while the PRs can return back to their own countries with the money they made and retire comfortably. SINGAPOREANS WILL JUST HAVE TO ROT TO DEATH MISERABLY.All but a sad ending for us instead.

Wet markets in HDB housing estates are part of the community-public facilities/amenities. HDB had operated and maintained them for many years. In fact, HDB also maintained the flats. Now the jobs are taken over by Town Councils who keep increasing conservancy fees and charges.
HDB has also reduced the building of new flats. Design and Build flats are constructed by private developers though sold under HDB rules and limitations but priced like private condos.
Now wet markets are sold to private business like Sheng Siong who has no qualm to hike rent. There is nothing for HDB to do. HDB should wind up.
There will be winners and losers.
Winners – HDB and Sheng Siong
Losers – stallholders and residents
I say all stall-holders should boycott. Either shut up stalls every Sunday or give-up their stalls. This will put pressure on the MPs and Sheng Siong.
Residents should also help by not patronising. In fact, the final losers are residents because the profits made by HDB are paid for by Sheng Siong who will be financed by stall-holders who in turn pass the hikes to residents.

Just in the other posting, about fake practices by PM Lee. Reposting here as it is relevant.

The theme of PM Lee's speech is basically that the government is aware of such fake practices and the public should not pressure the government to take action just because there is a large number of individual feedback, letters or emails.

Implicitly he is telling you Singaporeans not to be conned by such people or organisation such as the SDP or Chee who goes around with fake statistics telling the whole world that Singaporeans are suffering from extreme poverty, injustice and unhappiness.

So as pointed out even by some forummers here, there are many postings here about poverty, or anti-gahment or anti-Spore postings, which are fake and posted by same persons using different nicks.

So people in this forum must also be alert and smart as well not to take everything line, hook and sinker.
