Many dead in Russia train crash
Scores of people have been killed or injured in a train crash in Russia, reports say.
A major rescue effort was under way, as one official said 22 people had died and 55 were hurt.
Several carriages of the express train came off the tracks as it travelled from Moscow to St Petersburg, on one of Russia's busiest rail links.
Law enforcement sources said a small crater had been found at the scene, sparking speculation of a blast.
A 2007 bomb on the same line derailed a train, injuring nearly 30 passengers.
Mobile hospital
Friday's crash happened at 2137 local time (1837 GMT) as the train, named as the Neva Express, was travelling near Bologoye in Tver region, Russian Railways told Russia's Interfax news agency in a statement.
Two aircraft carrying equipment for a mobile hospital were reported to be heading for the scene.
Russian media reports said that at least three carriages had come off the rails.
According to a law enforcement official quoted by Itar-Tass news agency, a small crater under one of the rails was being investigated.
"Several versions are being considered. It must be just a pit someone dug out. Or the crater was left by an explosive device," the agency quoted the source as saying.
Some witnesses heard a loud bang before the crash, Russian media reports said.
