FOSHAN CITY (GUANGDONG) - A father worried for his six-year-old daughter has hired a Shaolin gongfu master to protect her when she goes to school and returns home.
According to a Shanghai Daily report, the man, who was identified only as Mr Liu, hired 38-year-old monk Hu Qiong, after news of the attacks on schools gripped China.
Mr Liu, who owns two printing houses in Foshan City in Guangdong province, told the paper that he and his wife were too busy to take their daughter to school and back home every day.
So they hired Mr Hu, who had become a Shaolin monk at the age of eight and had once been crowned 'Iron Man' for his martial arts prowess.
At around 7am, Mr Hu drives the girl to school, and waits at the gate for at least three minutes while she makes her way to her classroom.
In the afternoon, at around 5pm, he turns up to drive the girl home.
For the hour of work that he does each day, the monk is paid 10,000 yuan (S$2,000) a month. He also receives a traffic allowance of 1,000 yuan.
