Singapore police warning: Scammers posing as civil servants asking for money transfers, credit card details

SINGAPORE - Beware of scammers impersonating government officials, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said on Monday.
There have been several reports from the public, after receiving phone calls from various government agencies' hotlines, police said.
In a Facebook post on Monday, police said the callers claimed to be government officials or civil servants and made requests for money transfers or credit card details.
The police elaborated that the callers could adopt the personas of immigration officers, police officers or court officers among others.
Police said these calls are typical scammers' tactics.
"Government agencies do not call members of the public to request for any money transfers or credit card details," they said.
For those who receive such calls, the police have advised them to:
- Ignore such calls;
- Not transfer any money to the caller, either via remittance agencies, banks or any other means; and
- Report the case to the police
