In an extraordinary incident, the top of a double-decker bus was cleanly sliced off by an overhanging tree branch along Bukit Timah Road. A total of four passengers suffered injuries.

STOMPer Rachel was at the scene, and told us in an email today (May 13):

"An extraordinary accident saw the roof sliced clean off the top of a double-decker bus in Singapore.

"The SBS Transit double-decker bus (Service 174, SBS7499A) was travelling along Bukit Timah Road on the afternoon of May 12 when it collided with an overhanging tree branch."

STOMP contacted the police for more information, and this was what they had to say:

"Police received a call yesterday at about 4.20pm informing us about a fallen tree branch found on a public bus along Bukit Timah Road towards Upper Bukit Timah Road after Sixth Avenue.

"A total of four passengers suffered injuries and were conveyed conscious to NUH.

"Police investigations are ongoing."

Whoa that's sick. Normally you just get tree branches banging off the upper deck windows.

Why are there a sudden increase of strange mishaps and accidents !

Very very strange indeed. Bus no 74 has always been double decker as far back as the 80s. Plus buses travel repeatedly on the same bus route. how can an overhanging tree branch suddenly become lower and hit the bus? Look at the damage. it wasn't just a brush or graze.
Have the trees started their protest against the misjustice in this land?

It's Bus 174 which goes to Orchard Road.

Perhaps the other buses "siamed".
Or perhaps something caused the branch to go lower down just before this particular bus was about to pass through.
Or perhaps this particular bus was travelling really near to the pavement.
We'll probably never know.

Now take bus, must wear helmets, put on masks, fasten seat belts & wear parachutes, who knows one might get airborne soon!!:D

God is angry with the managment of SINkingpore Inc:D...:p

i think a monkey was sitting on the branch when it happened...:D

I usually love to sit at upper deck 1st row, next time have to think twice or sit right side.

That branch could have easily decapitated a few passengers.

Bus flips onto its side, causing massive peak-hour jam on PIE

An accident had left this bus lying on its side on the PIE (Pan Island Expressway), causing traffic to slow to a crawl during morning rush hour.
In an email today (June 3) the STOMPer described the scene:
"This is the bus that caused the jam on the PIE this morning.
"The bus was travelling from opposite the direction of Tuas.
"It ended up on the first lane of the road in the direction of Changi."
Another STOMPer, Wahliaoeh, was caught in the huge jam as well.
"I got onto the PIE via Eng Neo Avenue and almost
immediately got stuck in the jam.
Cars were lined up all the way until just after
the Steven's Road exit.
"The jam was so bad that I could honestly have
got out of my vehicle and walked faster. It took me 45 minutes to
complete a journey that usually only takes 15 minutes.
"Come to think of it, it's amazing that such an accident could have occurred on a perfectly dry road. Perhaps the driver was careless."

How come the bus skip on the fast lane or most right hand side?>
Conclusion the bus driver must be speeding and skip.
Must jail and fine bus driver.
1. For driving on illegal lane or 1st lane.
2. Speeding if not the bus cannot skip and overturn on dry road.
