The vast majority of coronavirus cases are mild and brief, data shows
covid-19 recovery

  • Reports out of China reveal that a coronavirus infection rarely results in severe symptoms, with the vast majority of patients only experiencing mild symptoms that quickly go away.

  • Over 80% of confirmed COVID-19 patients were classified as mild, and over 70,000 of the roughly 80,000 coronavirus cases in the country have already been deemed cured and have been discharged.

  • Researchers continue to battle the pandemic in China and abroad, but social distancing and lockdowns are still the most effective way to slow the spread.

Data out of China, the hardest-hit of any country currently dealing with the novel coronavirus pandemic, offers some good news for the first time in, well, a long time. As CNN reports, the most recent data from China suggests that the vast majority of people who come down with COVID-19 suffer only mild symptoms — and sometimes no symptoms at all — and then recover quickly.

The disease can be devastating for the elderly and those with serious chronic conditions, and the report is by no means a reason to abandon social distancing practices elsewhere in the world, but it’s encouraging news nonetheless.

The data from China includes the outcomes for most of the first 80,928 people who were confirmed to have the novel coronavirus. We’re all preparing for the worst, but the figures from China are encouraging, with over 80% of patients being classified as having mild symptoms. In fact, of those over 80,000 coronavirus patients, over 70,000 have already been deemed cured and have been discharged.

As has been known from the earliest days of this pandemic, the older a person is, the more likely they are to suffer severe health complications from a COVID-19 infection. However, young people can still be at serious risk, especially if they have any type of underlying health condition. Things like high blood pressure or cardiovascular issues appear to increase the mortality rate significantly, as does diabetes.

China hit a major milestone yesterday when it reported no new coronavirus cases local to the country. Chinese officials still reported 34 new cases of infection, but those were from individuals who had recently arrived in the country from elsewhere, and were not the result of community spread within China. Some have questioned whether these numbers are accurate, but the official reports are all we have to go on at the moment.

Being the first country to be hit with a pandemic always puts you at a disadvantage, and China has taken some seriously drastic measures to stem the spread of infections across the country. Now, as more rapid testing options begin to roll out, other countries may be better equipped to deal with the situation, especially if citizens continue to follow important social distancing recommendations and avoid contact with their elderly loved ones for the time being.

For Boss sam to use chicom data as fact says how desperate he is.

Population 1.6b: not even one internal case for past 3 days? LOL

Even i a die-hard pro CCP snkie find it ridiculous!

Suffers from:
1) old man stubbornness
2) normalcy bias
3) comfirmation bias

And most of the biases known to man!

Let's say the numbers are true, even a small percentage of sick cases can overwhelm your medical system. Which was the situation in china and is the situation now in italy, spain, iran. It should be clear to every one now it's not how deadly or many die from it that is the biggest problem, it's the high percentage of infected that requires ICU care.

It has nothing to do with bias it's a half full vs half empty issue.

Nobody is suggesting that it cannot be fatal and when a large number are infected of course the number dead in absolute terms will appear overwhelming.

I'm looking on the positive side of things. There is a more than 80% chance that it will be nothing and those are excellent odds and these figures have been verified and not just dependent on Chinese data.

Seriously you guys should stop all this doom and gloom. It's being fueled by the media and you're swallowing the bait.

There are no good news stories in the media because everybody knows that if too much positive news comes forth people will just move on and the frenzy for information will die down and viewership will be back to normal.

Just relax and stop worrying about all these doomsday scenarios. In a few months time you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about.

The same media which promotes global warming. Notice how silent global warming warriors are now that the carbon emission has suddenly dropped, planes grounded, businesses closed. And millions out of work.

March 10, 2020 -- As testing for COVID-19 expands, cases are being picked up across the U.S., confirming what disease experts have predicted: that the virus has been here for some time and is making people sick.

That can make the occasional cough or sneeze suspicious. Is this COVID-19? How would you know if you have it?

The most detailed breakdown of symptoms of the disease comes from a recent World Health Organization analysis of more than 55,000 confirmed cases in China. Here are the most common symptoms and the percentage of people who had them:

COVID-19 is a lower respiratory tract infection, which means that most of the symptoms are felt in the chest and lungs. That’s different from colds that bring on an upper respiratory tract infection, where you get a runny nose and sinus congestion. Those symptoms seem to be mostly absent for people with COVID-19, though they’re not unheard of.

The good news is that in China, most people who have gotten sick -- about 80% -- have had mild to moderate symptoms.

Given that, doctors feel that most people in the U.S. will be able to manage their symptoms at home.

If you start to show symptoms, call your doctor's office. Don’t go there before calling -- that might spread the infection around the doctor’s office. They may want to talk to you on the phone in a telemedicine visit.
