AT LEAST five of the People's Action Party's 24 new candidates have the potential to be ministers, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Sunday.
He also revealed that perhaps half the slate could, over time, become 'more than backbenchers'.
Together, there is 'enough talent to form a new leadership team for Singapore, including the core of the new leadership', he said.
Amid cheers and clappers in the party colours of white, blue and red, Mr Lee, who is also PAP secretary-general, also launched the party manifesto at the NTUC auditorium where the youth wing was celebrating its 25th anniversary.
With the slogan 'Securing Our Future Together', it contains six planks:
>- Create opportunities for higher incomes
>- Improve the lives of lower-income Singaporeans
>- Bring out the best in every child
>- Develop a vibrant city and an endearing home
>- Help the elderly stay active, healthy and engaged
>- Involve all Singaporeans in shaping the future.
