SINGAPORE : A duty terminal manager with the Singapore Airport Terminal Services was charged with corruption on Thursday.
44-year-old Abdul Rahim Jumaat allegedly received bribes in return for passenger information.
He was charged with 12 counts of corruption for accepting S$5,080 in bribes from Abdul Falik Abdul Latiff, a freelance airport agent.
He allegedly made unauthorised access into the airport's check-in system to obtain names and information of passengers who have no check-in luggage.
It is believed that Abdul Rahim did this on 25 occasions within a six month period, starting from November 2007.
The information was allegedly passed to Abdul Falik who used it to help his clients who are foreign passengers with excess baggage.
As a result, his clients avoided paying for excess baggage as their excess baggage were included under the quota meant for those without any check-in baggage.
Abdul Rahim's case will be mentioned again on January 12.
If convicted, he could be jailed up to five years, fined a maximum of S$100,000 or both.
