Samsung's new Galaxy Note 5 to go on sale on Saturday
NEW YORK - Samsung's latest Galaxy Note 5 smartphone, annnounced on Thursday, will go on sale two days later in Singapore for $1,088 for the basic model.
The company used to announce new models for its Galaxy Note line in September and ship them a month later.
The Galaxy Note 5 is a successor to the Galaxy Note 4, announced last September in Berlin, Germany. The latest model sports a 5.7-inch QHD Super Amoled screen, and is powered by the company's own octa-core Exynos 7 processor.
It also has the familiar S Pen stylus, which allows users to write on the screen and and access the phone's menu. But a new "Screen Off Memo" feature allows users to write on the screen while the device is still on stand-by mode. The new S Pen is also spring loaded, which makes removing the accessory much easier than before.
he Galaxy Note 5 shares many features first seen on Samsung's other flagship the Galaxy S6, which went on sale in April. For instance, it uses a glass and metal chassis similar to that of the Galaxy S6.
Also like the Galaxy S6, the Galaxy Note 5 will not have the microSD card storage feature and removable battery - a sore point with users and critics.
The new phone comes in Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum, with 32GB and 64GB5 storage options, at a recommended retail price of $1,088 and $1,188 respectively. Buyers will receive a free Fast Wireless Charging Pad (White only) worth $98, and a Clear Cover (Silver only) worth $48, while stocks last.
