Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the man was picked up in Teluk Intan at 6.10pm on Saturday.

"He confessed to making the call after a fight with his girlfriend.

"He wanted to prevent her from attending a course in Kuala Lumpur, to which she had insisted on going," Shukri said here yesterday.

The 25-year-old man, who has been remanded until Thursday, is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and can face a maximum sentence of seven years' jail and fine if convicted.

Shukri warned the public that it was an offence to abuse the emergency lines for one's own personal interest.

Last Thursday, KTM Berhad's train services between Tapah and Tanjung Malim were disrupted after police were alerted to a bomb threat at 1.45am.

Four trains, carrying more than 1,000 passengers heading towards Kuala Lumpur, were stalled for more than six hours as police searched along a 76km railway stretch for the explosive, which turned out to be a false alarm.

The search operations, which involved a team from the Bomb Disposal Unit, was called off at 12.45pm after investigation on a suspected-bomb buried under stones at Km259.25 near Sungkai was discovered to be an old plastic mat.
