SAF regulars in high demand after retiring from military?

The Ministry of Defence has revealed figures on how many Singapore Armed Forces regulars retire for the first time. It also showed that eight in 10 retiring servicemen take an average of six months to land a new job in the civilian sector.

According to a Straits Times report, six in 10 of about 100 to 200 regulars get help in making the transition from military to civilian working life from Mindef's Career Transition Resource Centre (CTRC).

Services offered by the centre include vetting resumes, organising networking sessions and career workshops, as well as career counselling.

Since last year, the retirement age for commissioned officers have gone up to 50 years old, up from 45 previously, and warrant officers and specialists retire at 55. With CTRC's assistance, most of these outgoing regulars are prepared for jobs which eventually see them ending up as supervisors, managers or directors in defence manufacturers, banks and security firms, while others become their own bosses.

Human resource specialists told the English daily that former SAF regulars are noted for their strengths in adapting to different cultures quickly, leading people and working in teams.

Of course, SAF regulars can easily find a job in the civilian (public) sector.

Most of them ended up working for Insurance co, car dealer, security guard, school discipline master, Amway, herbalife, gold dealer, bouncer in casino just to name a few........

Some pitiful ex-SAF guys are even driving taxis long hours to feed their familly.

For example, many of those officers subsequently become Operations Manager (OM) in our schools and JCs, and they had specifically identified that only ex-military personnel are preferred for this post, thus indirectly restricting those who are not from the military.

My nephew was once from Keppel T & T. He told me that his boss, also an ex-military personnel, runs the organization like a military camp. There is practically no chance for creativity and motivation.

And another SOF guy become licensed debt collector.

Makapa was correct that NS is killing us.
The true cost of the army not only our male youths losing 2 to 3 years of their lives, it creates a class of unproductive people who end up in our bloated gov't/GLCs.

Those who end up stat/glcs are not NS, they are from the professional armee pool. National security cannot be compromised.

now half colonel got 2 types :

Lieutenant Colonel & Senior Lieutenant Colonel. must be too many fat cats to promote to colonel and hence need to create and extra rank in between before getting full colonel.
