SINGAPORE: A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular serviceman, Master Warrant Officer (MWO) P. Jegathesan, collapsed at about 8.30am on Friday after completing a 3km mass run at the SAFTI Military Institute Sports Complex.
The 45-year-old MWO Jegathesan was taking part in the SAF Commanders' Sports Day where various cohesion activities were organised.
He was the Chief Warrant Officer of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Air Combat Command's transport group.
MWO Jegathesan was immediately evacuated to the SAFTI Military Institute Medical Centre where the doctors tried to resuscitate him. He was sent to the National University Hospital (NUH) at 8.45am and arrived at about 9.15am. Two SAF doctors and a medic continued their attempts to resuscitate him en route to the hospital. MWO Jegathesan was pronounced dead at 9.49am at NUH.
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late MWO Jegathesan. MINDEF will assist the family in their time of grief and is investigating the incident.
