You know your country is in trouble if they welcome all types of foreigners without looking at their commitment to the country.
My company organized a class for a large US bank today, inside was chock full of folks from India, Philippines and even from Myanmmar and Thailand. What was amazing was that in a class of 30, none were locals.
The class barely understood English and one even asked if we can have an instructor who speaks their language(Hindi). Our instructors are from UK and the other one US so this really is bad.
Its sad that our government with their policies have sidelined its citizen, one of the FTs from Australia and another from UK were cursing our government for the NS policies. With another FT, they were thinking of how best to do this and get out of NS liability. She enjoyed all the benefits of being a PR here and wants her son to have our education yet will not want her son to be "dirtied" or "tortured" by the experience of doing NS. She even said that all people who did NS were subnormal or idiots.
I didn't hear her said this as this was related to by other colleagues who had to bear with her incessant cursing of the country and its leaders. I felt even worse when no one told her off as they agreed with her that the country is going to the dogs.
My colleague told me that you know how bad things are when even an FT from Australia can say this, your country has no class, your police has no balls and your country is free for anyone to come and take a dump on.
Now, instead of working, other than brown nosing the UK boss, she spends her time surfing the web and chatting with other colleagues as how best to get out of the NS obligation. I guess all this stems from the fact that our own government don't cherish and appreciate the sacrifice that men in uniform(that includes the policemen, the civil defence folks) has done for this country.
My local colleague was very fed up when she heard all of this and we told her off and said you are welcome to leave anytime since you keep saying this is a "godforsaken" country. I felt a tinge of pride in my 2.5 years and that of the sacrifice of other NS brothers when she went on to "educate" her and how men have marched and died for the security of the land that she has taken for granted.
You know what the FT said? Without people like her, Singapore would still be in the 70s and a fishing village. She even said our leaders are fools and should give people like her more priviledges. This is really sad.
