S’porean Woman Refuses To Visit Boyfriend’s Parents In JB For CNY Over S$1.53 Ang Pow
She says it was the smallest red packet she has ever received.05 Feb 2025 at 20:15
We are guessing S$2 isn’t the lowest someone got in their ang pow.
A 25-year-old Singaporean woman took to Reddit that she refused to visit her boyfriend’s parents in Johor after receiving a five ringgit (S$1.53) ang pow last year.
“Even his aunt gave more than that,” she whined and went on to say that if they had given 10 ringgit (S$3.06), she wouldn’t have kicked up a fuss.
Describing it as the smallest ang pow she has ever received, the woman was also surprised that her boyfriend was also given a red packet with the same amount, calling it even more unacceptable.
The woman claimed to have spent a few months reflecting on her feelings though it seems she is still seething a year after the incident.
She went on to explain that she has more than done her part to shower love on her boyfriend's parents and that she always remembers to send gifts to them after every overseas vacation and during the festive period.
It was also revealed that her boyfriend’s parents work in Singapore though their salaries are on the lower side.
She added that her partner doesn’t seem very close to them, though he still makes the effort to care for his siblings.
Well, isn’t the new year about forgiveness? Your prospective parents-in-law deserve a second chance, right?
Would you be okay with a 5 ringgit (S$1.53) and pao?
