SATUN - A groom is being accused of stealing three baht-weight of gold from his bride's family immediately after the wedding, dumping his new wife and taking off with the loot, reports said.
The family of Paveena Suvamin, 19, filed a complaint with the police on Sunday after her brand new husband stole about 60,000 baht worth of gold from a member of her family and then disappeared.
The bride told police that she and Pathapong Kheunthong, 26, had been in a relationship for almost two years before they decided to get married.
Their wedding was held on Saturday with about 500 guests. Her family spent about 50,000 baht on the reception.
However, right after the wedding, the groom claimed that he had to leave to pick up his parents, saying their car had broken broke down outside a Tesco Lotus department store.
According to a member of the family, he and the bride left together in a car, supposedly along with the stolen gold.
After a while, when they didn’t return, the family went out searching for them and found the bride left alone in the car.
She said the groom claimed to have made a mistake and that his parents’ car actually broke down in front of a Big C, so he hired a motorcycle taxi, saying he would go and fetch them, and told her to wait in the car.
The family said they realised he had run away and so files a complaint with the police.
