<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I WAS at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) in Empress Place yesterday with a foreign friend. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our visit.
We were at the Kangxi Emperor: Treasures From The Forbidden City exhibition. Part of my friend's body accidentally touched the glass wall of an exhibit. Without warning, a security officer told him off rudely.
Subsequently, while we were in the South Asia section, the same guard shooed us out as it was approaching closing time. My friend felt harassed and disappointed.
I understand these guards have a duty to ensure the safety of artefacts and visitors. However, this guard did not observe basic courtesies when interacting with visitors. Are ACM's security guards trained to communicate their requests to visitors?
How can museums enrich the lives of visitors if their staff lack basic courtesies?
I hope the National Heritage Board and ACM will work harder to improve service standards. Wayne Lim
