PETALING JAYA: The navy’s KD Pendekar has sunk after hitting an underwater object off the coast of Johor, leading to a leak.

That is odd. Operational discipline clearly not enforced. One breached hull shouldn't lead to a sinking as compartments are isolated with watertight doors at the bulkheads.

If it hit a submarine, that sub would also be damaged as badly and would have surfaced.

It's more likely the sea water chest leak could not be stopped. A noob error. Chief engineer need to be court martialled.

Nah. It's incompetence on the sailors of RMN. Otherwise you'd see a submarine surface with extensive damage, or frantic effort at saving a sunken submarine.
